trippy

this guy’s 3d flow is simply astounding. Adding him to my roster of favorite 3d focused poi spinners, which now include michael parisi, dave statik, and this guy

I have the biggest contact juggling crush on okatanpe.

This seriously gave me chills.

humina humina humina humina.

(seriously, asia has so many crazy cool juggling festivals.)

Higher Order Flower Transformations

So I had a really long train of thought about higher order flowers today.

Thought 1, all higher order flowers have orientations you have to deal with, not only rotational, but how you express the petals.

Thought 2, another way of notating higher order flowers that may be easier, is to get rid of loops entirely and instead think of all loops as simply points. This will make it easier to derive other patterns as well. I saw Drex using this notation when I talked to him about these flowers at wildfire, and now I think I understand why he uses it.

Thought 3, You can transform these patterns to generate new visually distinct patterns. However, these should still share many of the same properties as the original flower.

Thought 4. Collapsing inspin flowers in upon themselves. What if you could make the internal petals of an inspin flower overlap? It would look like a venn diagram.

Thought 5. Combining anti and in spin flowers within a single flower pattern. Now the question is, how do inspin flowers work in to the loop as a point representation system?

Now to actually practice these ideas, and see what works and what doesn’t :p.

If any of the results of this exercise are any interesting, I’ll be sure to follow up on this post with a long exposure photo of the pattern

I wanna try making poi tutorials

Are there any moves that people on tumblr are interested in learning?
If so, please send me a message, and I’ll see what I can do!

Reblog if you’re into Poi or Contact Staff!

sugarsupernova:

I’m eager to find more Tumblrs that are! Also, if anyone has any good resources for learning, don’t hesitate to hit me up so we can trade info!

I like both those things, and I would recommend finding people in your local area who practice these props. And if you can’t seem to find any, nick woolsey is a great poi spinner with a bunch of intro poi videos, Ben Drexler as well.
